Thanks Gordon

things to upgrade in the lx 4:
- Wider lens (since a lot of Panasonic’s automatic models feature equal wide-angle measurements, which takes away one of the features of the LX3)
- Same or brighter aperture
- Longer focal length
- Deeper grip
- Automated lens cover
Great camera otherwise

What’s the maximum minutes of video can you record on this camera
November 13, 2009 at 9:38 am
can any owners please tell me if the lens on this camera retracts if the camera is idle for some minutes while still on?, because i really cant stand that.
it will be a huge deciding factor.

Max. video length is 10m30s for 1280×720x24 and 15m for all other formats. Picture is quite fine, sound and compression is pretty lame. The 10m HD take almost 2Gbytes.

The lens doesnt retract. The camera turns itself off after 5 minutes, but you can turn this powersaving feature off in the menu. If you have the new firmware (2.1, you can download it), you can set in the menu that zoom setting will be restored after turning the camera on.

I was wondering if you can take black and White images with this camera and if so, how

Switch to the “P” setting and you can change the “film” type there. There are three different types of B&W. I use it all the time. Great camera.
December 31, 2009 at 8:32 am
by setting the film mode to b&w i would guess.

@roryt0710 photoshop it. set saturation to 0. easy, you can do it in windows picture browser.

Are there any cameras with a 2.0 lens that can zoom in movie mode?

roryt0710
Its always better to shoot color than convert the image to B&W on computer. That way you have an extra layer of control because colors affect black and white images, besides another up side is. That if you decide you want color you will still have both options. However if you shoot in camera black and white you cant convert it to color

This and the Leica D-Lux 4 are the best pocket cameras in the market.
February 15, 2010 at 3:44 am
beautiful.
February 15, 2010 at 1:19 pm
There’s no coincidence there, because they’re both the same camera re-branded with a slightly different firmware.
February 15, 2010 at 1:26 pm
I know, and very different prices.
