About blured background, check google for “understanding depth of field”. Compact cameras are not suitable for that.
However, there are few steps you need to do :
1. Focus on the eyes
2. Zoom in to the subject as much as you can (about 100 mm feel best for me)
3. Stand as close to the subject as possible (this can be still far away depending on your zoom)
4. Use as low F-stop as possible (shoot with lens wide-open). If nose or ears are blury and eyes are still sharp, use higher F-stop

I bought this the other day, and RMA’d it the same day. Why – Zoom Noise!
Incredible zoom noise occurs when zooming during video recording.
Sorry, but in a quite room, where all you hear is the ambiance, refridgerator noise, laptop fan, etc., and then, “click click click click… motor hummm stop.” Zoom out “click, click click, motor humm stop.”

Gordon, please review the zoom noise on the new ZS7. Thanks.

I have this cam bought in Melbourne. 1. I find the battery extremely not long lasting. Any comment on that? (i.e. if it could be faulty?)
2. How to get background blurred when take portraits. Of course I read about activating Macro. However, its not effective that much. Pls. advice. Thanks
