How do i upload pictures from a Panasonic Lumix camera on my computer?

I bought my granddaughter a Panasonic Lumix but, we can not upload the pictures on my computer. We have used the usb cable but the computer will not recognize it. I have a Dell XPS computer. Thanks!

    Buy a memory card reader. They are cheap at walmart.
    It is just a thing that you put your memory card into, then put it into the USB port and a folder will pop up on the desktop and the pictures will be in there.

    if you have a card reader built in the computer you can just put the memory card
